You might know about the benefits of coconut oil as a healthy alternative to vegetable cooking oils. It’s full of good fats and adds a smooth, rich flavor to foods but did you know that coconut oil is also a powerful weapon to have in your beauty arsenal?

Coconut oil has been used for generations as a natural skin and hair conditioner. It has so many uses, you’ll find yourself reaching for the bottle several times a day to enjoy its many beautifying benefits.

1. Clean Up

Coconut oil is a natural cleanser that is gentle on your skin.

It easily removes makeup, including waterproof mascara and all-day foundation.

To use it as a facial cleanser, rub an amount the size of a quarter between your palms and then smooth the oil into your face. Rub gently to loosen dirt then use a soft washcloth to wipe away dirt, grime, and makeup.

2. Moisturize

Blend raw coconut oil with your regular face cream for a boost of skin-loving fatty acids. Do this every morning and night and you’ll achieve soft, glowing skin that retains its youthful lift and radiance. The softness will last all day.

3. Bathing Beauty

Add a tablespoon or two of coconut oil to your bath water and turn bathing into a spa experience. The coconut oil will fill the air with a soft, inviting fragrance that will linger lightly on your skin. It will also leave your skin soft and silky.

4. Masked Marvel

Facial masks are a great way to infuse beneficial oils, plant nutrients, and other goodies into your skin. A mask made with coconut oil will calm irritations and give your skin a double-dose of moisture, resulting in a plumped-up, dewy look that takes years off your face.

In fact, some of the top charcoal masks actually have coconut oil mixed in due to the long list of extra benefits it provides – particularly its ability to moisturize and soothe the skin.

5. Lip Service

Coconut oil will smooth out rough, chapped lips without leaving a chemical sting.

Apply before going out in the wind or the sun. Your lips will stay smooth and protected.

6. Nail It

If your nails are soft, brittle or breaking easily, call coconut oil to the rescue. To use as a nail treatment, simply rub a tiny amount into the nail bed and cuticles of your clean, polish-free nails.

This is a great treatment to use after you’ve removed artificial nails or “gelish” polish, which usually leave nails weak. After two or three weeks, you’ll see a big difference and stronger nails.

7. Eczema Soother

Coconut oil is gentle on sensitive skin and will soothe eczema spots. Studies have found that it works better than mineral oil and is gentler on inflamed skin. Rub it on and feel confident that you’re not applying any synthetic oils or fragrances that will irritate your skin and cause more flare-ups.

8. Fight the Signs of Aging

Regular moisture is key to helping diminish the look of wrinkles. Coconut oil contains fatty acids and antioxidants, ingredients that have been proven to “plump” up the appearance of skin, reverse damage and diminish the look of wrinkles.

Another important benefit is that raw, organic coconut oil contains no fragrances. Many commercially-prepared face creams have fragrance added to them. With pure coconut oil, you won’t have that worry. You’ll just have beautiful, youthful skin.

9. Scrub Secret

To make your own face or body scrub, mix a small amount of sugar or sea salt with a little coconut oil. Use a ratio of two parts oil to one part sugar. Blend together for a scrub that won’t irritate your skin and will leave it smooth and fresh.

10. Spoon It

Coconut oil is as good for your insides as it is for your outsides. It makes your gut happy and adds important nutrients including magnesium, potassium and lauric acid. Feeling good makes you look good, so start enjoying a teaspoon of smooth, mild-tasting coconut oil every day.

11. Lotion Love

Replace your body lotion with a jar of coconut oil and you’ll enjoy baby-smooth skin even in the harshest winter or summer weather. Start with a quarter-sized amount and rub it in daily. You’ll find your rough spots disappearing. As a bonus, you’ll be enveloped in the warm, natural fragrance of coconut that is never overpowering but always inviting.

12. Massage Oil

Coconut oil is a fantastic massage oil. You’ll love the way it slides over skin and muscles, making a massage unbelievably easy. You’ll enjoy the way it softens your skin and leaves a fresh, relaxing scent.

13. Loosen Stiff Joints

Do you sometimes wake with toes or fingers that are stiff? A drop of coconut oil rubbed into them will let them loosen up gently and without pain. This is a good remedy for arthritis sufferers, people recovering from injuries or anyone suffering from joint or muscle stiffness.

14. Scalp Soother

Coconut oil is just as good for your hair as is for your skin. Rub a pea-sized amount between your fingers and rub it into your scalp for a soothing massage that will take care of dandruff and scalp irritations. You can also rub some through your hair to get rid of frizz and add shine. Coconut oil naturally strengthens hair and makes it smooth.

Now that you know the amazing benefits of coconut oil, go out and grab a jar. This cooking star will soon be a star in your bathroom cabinet too.
